Let me first begin that my heart and prayers are going towards Boston and that this post is in honor of them. I felt like I was able to honor Boston a little this past weekend as I entered my first race since I was in track and cross country in the 9th grade. I did Lynchburg’s first 5K Color Run! Now what is a color run? Basically it is a race where they throw powdered colors on you throughout. And let me say, it makes it really fun. Like really fun. The other part that makes it fun was the fun ladies that I ran it with – Jamie and Cindy. Here we are at white and clean before the run.

In our race packets they included fun tie die bracelets for the Children’s Miracle Network and fun glasses to wear to protect your eyes. We added the bandanas to be gangster to protect us from inhaling the powder.
The run was in support of the Children’s Miracle Network, so it felt good to know that the registration was going towards a good cause. The basic rundown of the race is that you all start out together with in initial blast of color thrown at you. Then, as you go further down the course you run through different color stations where basically people just shake and throw colored powder (it smells like baby powder).

I don’t know those people, I just grabbed a photo from the paper since I was all busy getting showered with powder during this part. For some reason getting showered with color is really quite a blast. Then you get to take glamor body tie-died shots at the end.

At the end of the race there is a color pit, where basically everyone gets together and jumps around throwing color in the air.

We actually didn’t stay for this part because Jamie’s sister went to the hospital to have a baby when we started the race, so needless to stay we didn’t dilly dally at the end. But we still had a blast!
Also, I wanted to get a fun shot of my face. When I got home I was able to actually see all the color that was splashed on me. I really liked the pretty colors on my face. Perhaps we can make it a new trend?

And for a grand finale, who doesn’t love a race that gives you Reese’s eggs at the end?!

Now I am also thinking about doing more races, especially the 5K since it is a nice short little run! Maybe this will actually get me in gear, and I will actually run the Virginia 10 Miler this year. I keep saying I want to and I never do. I’ll let you know if there are any more runs on the horizon!
